Having something similar to P5 or even P2 (Why did they remove water and earth? They were cool). They simplified the game way too much, having just 6 elements + physical and almighty is just too poor. I loved most characters, but I missed at least 1 or 2 more playable characters (and some characters being way worse than others, but I didn't really mind that because you can complete the game with every setup if you're decent). Or missing an entire dungeon because you didn't max Aeon arcana (come on some people play the game blind and they don't even know who's new in Golden, just a similar thing with Maruki in p5 happened to me). Getting the true ending without a guide is a pain, because some decisions might ruin your gameplay (yes I understand the point of the hospital scene but come on) and the fact that you literally can miss the final boss (even though it's not as obvious) was kinda bs (or maybe I'm dumb but I still hated it). My favorite is tied between P2 and P4G but I'll choose P4G because it was my first game: Fuuka is the best support compared to Rise and Futaba, don't me.

The full moon bosses were really interesting (but some of them were kinda bullshit if you don't adapt or read between lines), and I personally love the importance of Arcana in this game compared to the others. I liked the whole evolved Persona mechanic just when a party member loses someone important, it felt way more epic than 4 or 5 (My fav were Akihiko's and Junpei's). My less favorite (yet still GREAT) game of all 5 was Persona 3 for me. the bad: money and resources were a bit too easy to get leading to low difficulty if you took minimal effort at completionism, some characters felt a bit like flat archetypes. fun plot that's a good blend of heavy message and brightness unlike the overwhelming gloom of 3 or the bright poppy sentiments of 4. P5R- the good: the definitive best dungeons with a good blend of 3s length and frequency and 4's variety and thematics. money is hard to come by forcing grinding, and quests are mostly pointless plot meanders, while the "slice of life manga" parts are awesome you spend most of the game being told "you don't know what to do next, wait until the plot bus arrives at the station". the bad: dungeons are short and infrequent so that entire side of the game is poorly integrated. it feels like a very real group of teens not a bunch of junior commandos like 3 and 5 can sometimes. amazing character writing and dialogue with genuine emotional moments as well as laugh-out-loud funny moments. P4G- the good: amazing, stellar social links that make you care about the characters. long sections of tower can get samey and repetitive. the bad: Time is so tight even with a walkthrough you literally have only a few time periods to spare to max all social links. the plot drives on powerfully without meandering you always have a clear goal in front of you and know the stakes, and there are some jaw-dropping twists.

P3P- the good: the dungeon sequences plus full moon events fully integrate the combat into the game and make the game a full blend of combat and social sim, the themes are well integrated with the social links (especially Tower, Heirophant and Sun). They're all good in different ways and all bad in some, to be honest I think if you look only at "final" editions (portable, golden, royal) which often very intelligently fix the problems of the base game.
Half the dungeons go the exact same way, and could've been put in the game in any order, and nothing would change. The rather formulaic nature of the plot probably could've been better. And don't even get me started on how skeezy it is that he gets "respected" as a meme-y sex god by fans given how that attitude is presented in game. But as a result, he feels extremely "empty". The weakest protagonist feels like they overcompensated a little trying to fix the issues with P3's original one. It's the strongest "on average" in other words, because it never drops to the level of 3 or 5's lowest points.but it never really hits the highs of those others, either. Most of my issues with being able to care about the cast and game events are fixed by the FeMC route.Īnd the one I like most is Persona 4, but: Same thing for Time, Tender Feelings, and heck, just the music all around, not just Social Links, really. "Joy", especially is just a trademark tune in a way none of the other games manage with their hangout music. Has some damn good music for Social Link stuff. The team grows along with what plot there is, so there's not so much dancing around potential character development, in case you didn't do it. Its successors never really quite came up to the bar it set on that. It has the best character arcs/team dynamic of the modern Persona games. Interesting idea, let's see, looking at the mainline ones I've played (that is, 3-5).
